Local Weather Text Box: Meet the Candidates Chili Supper A Hugh Success Local Democrats met at Columbus City Hall the first Wednesday in March to meet their list of candidates for this year’s county election. A bigger that expect crowd wowed and excited seasoned and new Democrat supports alike. State candidates running for State Treasurer and Secretary of State, plus local county and township candidates introduced themselves to the standing-room only crowd. Mayor Armstrong and Chairwoman Jessie Hill welcomed the attendees, while the new candidates “worked” the crowd. The chili was outstanding. Donations poured in. Acting Chairwoman Jessie Hill and the Bartholomew County Democrat Central Committee met with the Elizabethtown Board and Clerk-Treasurer Thursday, February 18, 2010. Due to a recent death, there is an open seat on the board. E-town Board Members presented only one candidate, whom they would recommend. Mr. Thompson is a volunteer fireman in Elizabethtown, serves as a reserve deputy for  Republican Sheriff Mark E. Gorbett, who is currently seeking re-election unopposed, and a deputy coroner for Republican County Coroner Allen K. Smith, who has gained local and national recognition as a contestant on the CBS show America’s Biggest Loser. Central Committee Members Jason Vest and Carla Barrett, as well as, Chairwoman Hill will interview additional candidates. We will welcome their choice to our growing list of proud Democrat officeholders.
